Techniques
During the retreat, Rajat will demonstrate a variety of oil painting techniques including colour theory, edges, brushwork, composition, and value control. He will also cover methods for working in plein air, as well as techniques for creating depth, atmosphere, and texture in your artwork.
Teaching Method
Rajat’s teaching philosophy is centered around providing individualized attention and guidance to each student’s unique learning style and artistic goals. Rajat strives to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment that fosters creativity and experimentation, while emphasizing the fundamental principles and techniques of oil painting.
Location
The group will stay at an historical Villa in the hills of the Tuscan countryside; most of the learning, working, and sharing will take place at the Villa. On alternate days, the group will travel to nearby noteworthy locations for inspiration, providing time to explore and observe beautiful and historical settings, using sketching and journaling to develop ideas.

Rajat believes that anyone can master oil painting. His paintings focus on capturing the transformative power of light on objects, seen through his unique perspective. He enjoys painting landscapes and still lifes, selecting specific elements and presenting them in his own style. Rajat’s works convey his emotions and ideas, without losing the essence of his subjects. His art reflects his passion for seeing the world in new, vibrant ways and sharing that vision with others.

Bio
Rajat Shanbhag (Rajat Shanbhag) is an oil painter based in Vancouver Island, B.C. He has a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering and works as a product designer, but his true passion lies in creating impressionistic works of art. Rajat’s paintings have been featured in International exhibitions such as Plein Air Salon, Grand National Exhibition – Oil Painters of America, and twice as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center. With over a decade of experience teaching art, Rajat loves sharing his experience and passion for painting. He believes in fostering a creative environment that inspires his students to develop their unique artistic vision.
